Excitement is brewing around Quality State Oil Company's 20th anniversary of its MDA golf outing. From a group of 35 golfers in 1989 to nearly 150 today, Quality State Oil along with its marquee sponsor CITGO Petroleum Company has build a premier golf event supporting "Jerry's Kids".
Back in 1989 Scott Stangel and Larry Laboy, after a hard day in the Q Mart Stores, were sitting around trying to figure out a way to justify a day off to play golf. Scott said ne had read some place that CITGO supports MDA charity golf events. So he asked Larry to look into it. The result was $3000 raised for MDA and a great day of fun for all. And by the way, Scott and Larry got their wish; a day to blow off work and play golf.
In the beginning there was only golf and a small lunch. A few prizes were awarded and a couple of raffle and auction items. Over the years exciting changes included hole n' one prizes, a million dollar shootout, putt contest, full steak dinner, enlarged auction, expanded raffles, tee gift for particupants, and celebrity appearances. But the greatest accomplishment was raising for MDA 10 times the total the 1989 event did.
Wow what a history!! So now its the 20th anniversary and exciting new things are planned. A brand spanking new anniversay logo, a commerative gift each participant will receive, and the crew is working on greater partnerships and celebrity participation.

The 2009 Quality State Oil/CITGO MDA Golf Challenge is scheduled for July 15 at Quit Qui Oc Golf Club in Elkhart Lake. As a participant your day begins with a complimentary driving range, followed by a 10:00 tee time. Teams of 4 golfers will be formed to challenge the beautiful Quit Qui Oc layout. During your round you will be treated to lunch on the course, many great contests, and free beverages throughout the day. Following you 18 holes of golf you will feast on Quit Qui Oc's famous steak fry, and your day will end with an exciting auction benefiting MDA and an awards presentation.
Registration is open to everyone regardlessof skill level. Teams of 4 golfers will play a scramble format with winners determined by a random draw. As always the low team will win a special prize, so if you want to "stack" your team go right ahead. If you don't have your own team you can be assigned to one. What ever you chose to make your day memoriable, the purpose of the day is to have fun and help cure this debilitating diease.
Registration will begin March 1, so start forming your teams today. Formal invitations will be mailed in early May, but the event fills fast so register on line prior to receiving your invitation to guarantee your spot.
Keeping in the tradition of the outing, it will be affordable giving participants the best golf outing value. At the same time, with the help of the outing's many partners, the contribution to MDA continues to increase.
